Hitting the wall and how to overcome it

When you hit a wall it feels like everything stops in it's tracks.  I'm here to let you know that there are ways to overcome this and you shouldn't feel so down on your luck.  There are plenty of times that I've been working on something and I've hit a wall, and hit it hard, but I overcame it using a few simple tricks which I will talk about in this discussion Hitting the wall and how to overcome it

What does "Hitting a wall" mean?
Well it could mean a few things, but mainly it means you've been doing something and now you're stuck and can't progress.  This could be when you're designing a website and can't figure out what to do next with the design.  It could also mean that you're doing an SEO campaign for a client and their rankings just decide to stop moving for a few months and you can't get anything to budge.

Some things are out of our power, like the SEO campaign example, but others can be overcome by us by doing the following...

Switching Gears
When you're working on something and you hit a wall, try switching gears for a little while and coming back to the original work later.  I've done this a lot when it comes to helping someone with a WordPress theme and it works well.  It will feel like I hit a wall and then I'll just go and write up some content for my websites and come back an hour or two later to keep working on the design.  Usually I will break through that wall and keep chugging along like a freight train Hitting the wall and how to overcome it

Attack From Different Angles
I teach my little girl this every time she's struggling with homework, and it works really well.  She'll be stuck on a math problem and she's taught to look at it one way, which is what she keeps doing and getting the wrong answer.  I'll then calm her down and tell her to try getting the answer a different way, and it usually works.  I won't give her the answer, but I will give her little hints as to how she can come up with it on her own.  Once she's older she'll be able to do this on her own and I can just sit there being a proud parent because she's attacking a problem from multiple angles and not just the one way she was taught.

This trick will help you out on more than just your own problems, it can be a great way to get promoted at work because you're now considered "the problem solver" lol Hitting the wall and how to overcome it

Taking A Break
A lot of times I've noticed that I'm hitting a wall with my work simply because I've been doing the same thing for hours on end.  This is more of a mental wall and I just need to take a break in order to recharge.  When this happens I'll usually just go get lunch or watch some TV for an hour while snacking on something I probably shouldn't lol.

Taking breaks is actually a law when it comes to working a 9 to 5 and it's mainly so the employees can eat lunch.  But taking a break isn't just so you can eat, it also replenishes your mental gas tank and you can continue on for another 6 hours.  Not taking a break has be proven to show a downward spiral in performance because of fatigue, mental and physical.

In Conclusion:
These are just a few ways that I get through those walls when I do hit them and they tend to work for me Hitting the wall and how to overcome it  It's normal to hit a wall when working each and every day, but with the tricks I listed above, you can likely get through them like the KoolAid guy busting through and yelling "Ohhh Yeahhh!!!!"  lol Hitting the wall and how to overcome it

I've had this happen with some of my clients. I've done some much stuff for them for such a long period of time that I simply felt I couldn't progress anymore.
Sure the organic traffic was slowing increasing because of all the SEO I've done over time but nobody got wildly rich. They made the mistake to rely solely on SEO for their traffic and at some point, there is only so much you can do.

Usually, when I finish all the on-page optimizations and I manage to rank them first for all their main keywords in their niche I usually propose the creation of a blog or content based section where I can continuously add text based content and articles, in general, targeting their respective niche.

What I understand in hitting the wall is like a writer's block. But when you are working on a project, there are times that you lose your enthusiasm because of a snag or a little problem. What I usually do is to TAKE A BREAK. And not just a break but to do something else to divert my mind. Even in the office when I tend to hit the wall due to monotony or maybe too much pressure, I take a break by going out. Sometimes I do a little shopping or visit a friend in a nearby department. And after half an hour, I go back to what I was doing and the wall is gone. Truly, taking a break from what you are doing is always effective to me.

This happens more often than not in all spheres of life. You get working on a thing until you run out of ideas and you can't progress, in fact, the progression is no longer in geometric but arithmetic.

Those points are the best ways to handle such situation, you either switch the gear to a different style, means, mode or way especially if the one on the ground as refused to bulge.

But in all take a break if you wish but don't let go.

I think the best thing to do is to take a break. Sometimes you just have to relax and rest your mind and brain before you progress. Sometimes, all it takes is a break for you to figure out what the problem is or to come up with something good in terms of content. The best type of break is to probably go for a little walk so that you can truly relax and take your mind off things.

It is quote certain that I need to take a break and refresh and then begin my enterprises again. However, I have a hard time relaxing and taking a break, because, when I do, I feel that I am constantly missing out on possibilities for advancement and profit. This is probably compulsive or obsessive on my part, but I can't help but to feel this way. I wonder if anyone else ever feels this way as well in their professional and freelancing lives?

Taking a break is very important. I will share my experience here. I am writing a story and at a certain point, I hit the wall. I try to ooze out myself, but words do not flow. Then I go to facebook, I check my friends and see what they have been upto. I even post a photo or a status. After an hour or so, I go back to my writing, lo and behold, words begin to flow.
Switching gears and attacking from different angles are also good ideas, I have also used these techniques when I am stuck.

Yes, the best thing to when are at a dead end is to stepback, take a break, regroup, and make a fresh attempt to go forward again. If you should attempt to continue in the same stagnated mode, the more frustrated you may become and the greater the chance of you becoming ineffective in the attempt to produce anything meaningful. If you should take a break from the situation and clear your head, you will most likely find that fresh ideas might begin to flow and you are able to move forward in a meaningful way once again. I have had this type of situation on many ocaissons and I have know other whom have had similar experiences and we are all in agreement that to regroup and come again will probably help tremendously.

I think when one gets hit with hurdles there are always two options one is to find out the solution. And second is to branch out into something else. And take time off that current activity. And this way one can surely be overcoming to another type of the things. I have learned that hitting the wall has it's set to change there as well. I am guessing that hitting the wall comes due to lot of stress too.

So this has to be changed. And people have to take things one thing at a time there. You can fix few things but not all the time. So it all comes down to how you plan for the same. I have not much leaned how to deal with the burnout. But it's doable from what I have noticed.

I like how you suggest that taking inventory in this type of situation is crucial. We have all hit the wall before, I am sure, and it is easy to just give up, at times, I think. I also actually think that this situation is quite common and that it happens to everyone, It is part of the growth process, and it requires us to toughen up or to evolve in new ways in order to move on and to persevere. I also like ho you remind us that everything can't be fixed all at once. We have to focus on the small things first and then move forward, accomplishing what we can every day to better ourselves and our situations.

I agree that everything can't be fixed all at once. You have to work on small things and then collectively it adds up. And that's something people have to learn over a period of time. That being said, you can get things done on that basis to some extent. There are always some variable which changes. And from my experience. I think it's reasonable to let other people solve the problem and show you different type of the approach on that point. I guess brainstorming and discussing is the way to go on that.

I have been having some problems with my business lately and I simply took a break for some days. Afterwards, I met with some people who advised me about what to do. This break has definitely helped me. I have been able to get the solutions to my problems and I am working through it now. I hope that I will be successful.

This is called getting that fresh perspective. Not only did you get the distance form the issues, you also sought after advice form mentors while you were decompressing, In that way, I think you were probably more open to advice than you would have been with your head against the grindstone, so to speak. You took a break, cleared your head, got more information, and then went back in fresh. Whenever you can do that, I think it is awesome. Your actions here are good advice to everyone.

The tips are great, but I think sometimes - when, for various reasons, the need is urgent - the best way is to look for help from others who also understand the problem and can see the situation from another angle, with another sight (different from yours). Having a different view of yours makes everything (creating new ideas and solving old problems) relatively easier.

Yes, just in general when I feel frustrated by doing a task, I come back to it later and find it is something that is much easier to do the second time around. I think that you can come back to tasks with an improved attitude and do much later after you have had a chance to refocus your energy.

The fact is we tend to forget about the simple things in life that actually adds worth and longevity. We use to play sports back in the days as recreation. We have no idea how beneficial that was to our being, body and mind that is. These use to act as our stress relief and breaks from the strains of life. We have sort of customized our adult life and ruled out quite alot of things that use to ease our minds. I suppose we have to reflect on some of these techniques to refresh ourselves in times of potential blocks and strains in order to revive holistically.

Well, I think as far as the earth keeps on rotating, then hitting the wall is clearly inevitable, it's part of the plugins embedded in our world, daily activities and endeavors. I love the first hint you provided which is changing gear. It hit me right to my heart, changing gear, then reverse and hit from another angle or direction, do this and repeat and success, will surely be yours.

Learn from your mistakes and try not to do it again. The more walls you hit and mistakes you make the better you become and the more prepared you are for any other hick ups along the way

I think I am about to hit the wall on my blog/forum I pretty much talked about everything there is to talk about. And now I am to the point where I am going to have to roll up my sleeves and get dirty and write some heavy duty articles for the blog and heavy dusty posts for the forum. Otherwise its going to die a quick death.

That’s what happened to my blogger friend. I was actually his co-blogger and the blog was doing good with the traffic. But when the time came that the blogger lost time to attend to his blog, he decided to close shop. When I met him about the issue, he admitted that his mind seemed to be running dry and he doesn’t want to compromise the blogs. Instead of writing low quality blogs, it is better to just quit for now. I guess he will revive his blog when he finds the time again.

Yes, I think Google has gotten a bit more stringent in terms of their requirements for Adsense. I think your friend can apply again when he has enough articles. I think Google wants serious contenders only in their Adsense program. Correct me if I am wrong about this. A wall with google is easy to hit.
