Helping small businesses make money is sometimes the easy part when it comes to online marketing. Finding businesses to help out isn't actually the most difficult part of this whole process, it's getting them to work with you. Sure you can have the best process out there and make them an extra $100,000 a year, but can they afford you and your monthly services to do this? Most small businesses are just that, small, and they can't usually afford to pay hundreds a month for SEO and Online Marketing services that they need.

What if I told you that you could get them to sign up with you almost every time you contact them? You'd probably think I was crazy for saying that since that would mean you're making an unlimited amount of money because you can contact thousands of businesses each day, right? Well this isn't exactly the case because you won't be charging them anything to help out. Well the answer to that is actually Yes and No at the same time. What you'll want to do is set up a contract with them for 1 year of work. Small businesses can't usually afford to risk a lot of money each month, and this is why you're going to be doing the first 3 months of work for free. You will have to explain to them that the first 3 months of any SEO campaign is basically the "set up" time because good optimization will take 1 to 3 months to start showing good results. In the contract you will have to add in a contract breaking clause which should be along the lines of:

If there is not ranking increase in the Google search results for the clients desired keywords after 90 days, the contract will be null and void.

This is a pretty simple technique that a lot of people don't use because they just want to get paid up front for the work to be completed. What about the clients that abandon you after the contract is up and finished?

I went through a situation like this recently: A small company selling some basic clothing articles they were really broke and couldn't afford much and I accepted to do some SEO work for the with less money then I'm usually asking for a similar project. As you said it is good to be the good guy if you can and just help people, most of the time you get a lot more in return than you put in but there are cases like this recent client I'm talking about that will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

So, to keep this short, I managed to double their sales in just 30 days! I worked my ass off for the website because it was a really cool project on a really good niche and everything was going perfectly, I never saw a website rank so good right from the start, this together with the user experience advice and tips I gave them to increase the conversion rates made the clients ecstatic!

Until they started to become greedy. After 60 days or so the organic traffic started to cool down, it was still growing day by day but not really in a spectacular way it did in the last 30 days. So I start getting calls, "why am I not on position 1st for this keyword and that keyword" - I explained to them that they have a very good growth, nice conversion rates this is what they wanted, organic traffic takes time to increase and you won't pass brand with big authority anytime soon.
They suggested me to implement additional keywords into the title tags and meta description, I told them I won't do anything that isn't relevant to the page itself.

Eventually, they left me for another SEO "expert " which applied some revolutionary tactics: "meta keywords and keywords stuffing". The client still blames me for the drop in organic traffic that he is now getting, claiming "I hacked Google" for dropping me as their SEO expert. I loled.

Oh well, it really depends on the type of client because they are also human that some clients are kind and good while others have that scheming devil style of business dealing. Maybe you can do some good for a client that you feel is worthy of your help because I believe that helping a good client will be helping you some other time. And if the client is not that good then you might just forget the help that you intend to give.

I think one has to help the small business in moderation and understand the professionalism. I know there are many people who keep on helping but it does not help them back. So not all the time gratitude may work out. And you have to go with the efforts where you can find yourself in better position. You can see that small business require more word of mouth ads for the same reason.

I have never worked for free. I am a professional and I need compensation for every job I do, even if it is a small amount. It might be lucrative to help a business grow and as for compensation when it grows, however, what if it never grows or does not make money. My work will be wasted.

This is how it should be but you know humans with their bad attitude of ingratitude, you wouldn't be surprised that, that same person would dump you after making it.Will start looking out for new sellers.But it good to help anyway but still charge a little, in case business between you two goes sour in the future, you'll be able to take it in your strides without being bitter

One friend who is into drop shipping business helped another friend open up the same business. Drop shipping is very attractive since there is practically no capital needed.
