Be completely honest with your clients and you'll be happier in the long run

If you're new to SeoClerks, welcome! But if you're a veteran then you may already know what I'm about to go over.

Being completely honest with your clients will make you a happier person in the long run because you'll weed out the people who have unrealistic expectations. Did I just tell you you're going to lose sales? Yup! But it's worth it because the ones you'll lose will most likely be upset with the work you're doing anyway if they don't hit #1 in 24 hours lol Be completely honest with your clients and you

You can tell potential clients that you will do the best work in the world and get Google to personally call them and ask where they want to be ranked, but it doesn't work like that. You'll just have a lot of pissed off clients and ruin your own credibility.

I've had thousands of clients in my many years of working online. I've sold web designs, SEO, SEM, reputation management, PPC management and various other services and I don't get many angry clients because I tell them the truth before the sign up. Sure I lose some clients, but it's worth it since those are the ones that would have been a hassle later on. I actually remember when I was working with someone on their SEO campaign and I told them that it could take 3 to 6 months to see any good movement in the SERPs. They came back to me after 30 days and started complaining to the point where they were going to file charge backs on me. I told them that they were under contract and that wouldn't be wise on their part. Even in the contract it said that it could take up to a year to see a positive ROI. They signed the contract so that means they read it, and if they didn't that's their own fault lol. A few days after we talked I noticed that I had a charge back. Yup! It was that same client. So I sent them to collections and got 6 more months of payments because they broke the contract lol Be completely honest with your clients and you

So even if you're 100% truthful with people, you will still have one or two of the thousand clients be grumpy. They want the stars and you can't give it to them lol. But in the end I'd rather be completely truthful to potential clients so that I have less headaches later on Be completely honest with your clients and you

Has anyone else done this?
Are you completely honest with clients or potential clients?

Thanks,

Razzy

I am sure that if the client has some experience in the field and has been working freelancers can easily spot an overselling guy who promises more than he can deliver.

From time to time, i had to "employ" some freelancers to reduce the load on my shoulders. I've started easy, i had post an ad and wait for potential workers. The amount of people that are not able to write an intelligible phrase but still claim that they can deliver some quality work is huge.

In the end, is much easier to discuss with the buyer what can you do, when can you start and more important what can you deliver and at what quality. This will save both of you time and you look more professional.

Razzy I agree with this 100% and I believe that you will get better customers this way, ones that trust you and are loyal to you.

I currently have three websites, one was an online store until recently and I receive a lot of emails from people wanting to do SEO work for me.

So far not one of these people have been honest with me and have fed me all sorts of unrealistic BS and this seriously annoys me.

There have been a few people here that I have contacted to ask some questions and I have been given unrealistic feedback. I am fortunate enough that I can see it for what it is.

The sellers here that have been straight with me have gotten my respect and trust, the rest go on my list of people not to use.

I'm completely realistic with what I'm offering, I even go out of my way to make it clearer for the client on what he is going to purchase.
I don't care if I lose clients in this process, its better for me in the long run, I have the right to choose the trial, my clients, as much as buyers have the right to choose their service providers.

Anyway, sometimes people order from me here on SEOclerks without a proper idea of what I'm offering and without reading the full extent of my services description.
I quickly reject such orders. Sure, maybe some of them may turn out fine if I would just talk and explain thing further, but why risk my ratings like that? Better for me to just move on without headaches.

This is true in the sense that once you're honest with a client, it would go a long way in ensuring that these customers feel concern about doing business with you in the long-run. I mean that it is hard to see anyone that wants to do business with anyone that is dishonest for it would always bring pain and regret after the business has been done. So, being honest and explaining what your products as well as what it can't offer is a good way to build confidence and trust with the people that buy from you.

I think being honest always pays off. That way client trusts your service. And he is more likely to come again and again. Some of the time you can see that it can earn good referrals too. So on that basis, i'd say that you should always be honest with what you are intended to offer. Also do make sure that you're offering the right set of the services. I have learned that in order to be happy it is worth spending the time the right way. Honesty and being transparent always pays off.

There are massage parlors here that provides a home service arrangement. We always avail of that because of the convenience. I can go straight to bed right after the massage. There was a time that the massage therapist would arrive late, sometimes for 30 minutes. That would peeve me because waiting for 30 minutes is no joke. And the therapist would blame the traffic in the main road. But one time that I had a schedule, I called up the massage parlor right on time that the therapist should have arrived. Lo and behold, it was the therapist who answered the phone. Okay, I changed therapist after that. It’s a simple honesty that is required of her and she failed.
