How do you deal with trolls online?

Ok so we all know what online trolls are right? Simply put these are people that behave terribly online, in a way that is bullying and offensive to others.

Very often these trolls will target one specific person and be incredibly derogatory and nasty to them. Every time this person posts anything somewhere the trolls attack.

Trolls like social media and also hang around on online forums.

Have you ever been the victim of a troll? Or have you come across trolls behaving badly on your own website or maybe your Facebook page?

And if you have dealt with trolls how did you deal with them?

To be honest I just completely ignore them and report them to the website or block them if I have the control (eg I own the site or a moderator etc) . they want responses, they always say "never feed a troll".

But like you said they always follow you but you can block or ban them. and if this is on your own website, use a spam filter as well. especially if they use certain keywords it may help lower it? Otherwise just ignore it and delete/block/ban the troll

sadly its impossible to stop it completly unless you know who it is and report it to the police. country depending that is - here in the UK a troll is officially a criminal and its against the law.. so if its a certain person constantly trolling you and you work out who it is you can get them arrested and charged for harassment trolling!

the hard part is tracking down who they are.

I have had a few of them on one of my Facebook pages and I just banned all those users, it was awful.

Fortunately I haven't had any trolls on my website. I have encountered a few of them on other people's forums before and I just report if I can and then ignore them but I haven't really had any be a troll towards me much.

I love trolls! They view websites, view videos, comment on your content, and do so much more for you! Think of trolls as people that will comment or view your content regularly. I have had a few trolls that went above and beyond, and basically created more traffic for a website than i ever could imagine.

However, there is trolls, and then there is hackers. From my experience, trolling sometimes leads to hacking. I'm not sure of what the connection is, but it is there. Does anyone else see this too? For an example, you will get a troll on your blog, and they will comment on every article with trollish comments, and then a few days later you'll see a message on your website saying something like "Lulzsec was here. @lulsec".

Thoughts
I think a lot of malicious individuals are trolls because they have problems in their life, and don't know how to express themself so they just create havoc for others. Trolls generally don't care, and have no remorse, but do they really?

Haha Everett YES YES!

I have a few faithful trolls that follow me and trash me on my Youtube videos, but this is engagement and Google loves engagement! Even when they click the thumbs down it is telling Google my content is getting noticed!

You find these kinds of people in real life. So having them online is basically the same. The only thing is that they tend to be a bit more aggressive because they have the possibility of hiding behind their screens, rather than face you. So, many tend to be equally aggressive when dealing with them I guess. You cannot spend too much time dealing with them as if you get into that habit you are going to waste a considerable amount of time that you could have put to better use. So I generally would prefer to let them be. As others said above, they are still traffic.

Well, I don't really deal with them. Sometimes I used them in my advantage, traffic is traffic and trolls can do all of your promotion work if you are clever enough and have an interesting enough niche and topic to get them started on.

I personally love the trolling culture, it's fun and hilarious and I think people that are offended should just learn to grow thicker skin. Life is tough, same as the Internet.

LOL Yes Cristian, a few trolls have found me and they certainly liven up my content! They even share my content and say something like "Geez look at this stupid woman?" haha, how clickable is that?

I personally love my trolls for this reason.

Well, there is no such thing as negative publicity right? And you are always going to have haters, no matter your niche, no matter what you are doing, people will exist that think your work sucks. We must understand that and never give up.

There is no better way to deal with trolls than to see them as jokes that are being passed around on the internet. I've see friends that got really angry as a result of trolls passed across them, but it doesn't matter to me as long as it is a troll is that na for office be that.

The trolls that I encounter is more on social media. Just recently, I received 3 messages from people I don’t know. Two of them were asking for a number, saying I might give them a lucky number. Maybe for the lotto? I really don’t know. The other one is about a sick relative that is needing financial help. To think that I don’t even know them, I consider them trolls or scammers. What I do is to block them so they cannot send me messages anymore.
