I am confused! Content or Backlinks? Which is superior NOW?

I am seriously at a crossroad here! Just of recent, i have seen web articles, internet forums, blogs etc talk about content now the MAIN FACTOR for getting higher search engine rankings as these present times is concerned. I have also seen some argue that getting backlinks is still the ULTIMATE.
I know that CONTENT and BACKLINKS are necessary for higher rankings but which one will you go for if you were to choose only one.
Please i want t hear from the seoclerks house; which one is now the SUPERIOR as at these present times?

Content!

I am a blogger and I can tell you that I have not spent much time getting backlinks, yes I do order some packages here and yes I do work on building my own backlinks from time to time but my main focus is on content.

The big thing to remember here is that without quality content your backlinks won't do anything for you anyway! Content comes first and if your content is great then adding backlinks will back that up 100%. If you create rubbish content and then add backlinks then it will do nothing for your website anyway.

The most important thing is one's content without a good content, getting a backlink become very difficult.Content has always been king and that alone can keep the readers than backlinks. So write valuable, useful and interesting contents to be able to attract organic traffic.

Backlinks on their own are practically useless. If you are going to focus solely on backlinks you are not going to do anything as even though you might get people to click, they are not going to stick to your site or blog if there is no relevant and valuable content there. Content is king - you have probably heard this. And I would say it is a supreme emperor, conqueror and almighty when it comes to being successful. Backlinks can be used, but I strongly suggest you focus first and foremost on your content, and on making sure it is always fresh, original and up to date.

PS I have published some posts that landed up #1 on Google a few minutes after publishing it and when this happens and any other page 1 and 2 rankings I quickly come here and buy a service to back it up and cement my rankings.

Content mate, focus on the content and you'll get backlinks if you are good enough. Even if you plan to make a backlink campaign you still need to have good content. Otherwise what are you going to do with all that gained authority if Google won't rank you for nothing because you have low quality content?

In the beginning was the word! The word being your content. In order to get/build/earn links to your words, you need to have words first! You can't link to content if the content doesn't exist. Well you could, but what would be the point in that?

Now it's true that content and backlinks go hand-in-hand with better rankings. But if I could only do one thing either content creation or backlink building. I would choose content creation. Because with your content, you can build or earn backlinks anyway. In fact, the best type of backlinks you can possibly earn is organic, naturally built backlinks from sites in the same niche as yours that love your content so much that they see it as an authority source and link to. On their blogs, forums, websites, social networking sites and everything else.

Also you can use content to get so many different things done. Example being you could literally write an amazing ever green article about guest posting and all the ins and outs, pros and cons of that. And then tell people in it that you are looking for guest posting opportunities yourself on sites and blogs in the same niche as yours and provide a form for them to contact you to write for them. If they are impressed with your current article, they will be much more inclined and likely to do that as well. Or you can use content in so many other ways as well. You can use it to build networks of sites, use it to request things from people that can help your site, even if you're just using a Call-To-Action that tells them to share it on their social media profiles etc.

But through content, through creating amazing killer content that is engaging, informative, ever green and helpful to people. Such as articles that present problems to things those people might be having and also provide a solution to those problems. You can earn backlinks anyway so that you don't even have to do any SEO backlink building on it anyway.

Look at authority sites today, they don't need to spend money on link building SEO. Although they would still do so to rank for other things. But they first start with the content first. Then once it's published, it can end up going viral overnight and naturally shared on thousands of sites and blogs, forums, social media pages etc naturally.

That only happens when you have that kind of content or you are an authority site or both. I am confused! Content or Backlinks? Which is superior NOW?

Now when it comes to link building. That's always much more riskier. There's a lot you have to take into consideration. It involves twice as much work as you'll obviously need to create your content first. You may have to outsource it which is risky and or expensive. Although you can buy professional SEO Services on SEOClerks today that are much more affordable than most professional SEO you find in a Search Engine would charge you and you still get the same high quality SEO link building service for a fraction of the price.

There's also a bit of a steep learning curve building backlinks yourself. And will require your time. Although not too steep and not that much if you can invest an hour or two a day or even a week devoted to learning it and doing it properly.

But while backlinks are and probably will remain the number #1 way that Google ranks a sites value and determines it's ranking place in the SERPS, your content and on-page SEO will always follow in at a close second place to determining that.

That's why you got to get them both right. I am confused! Content or Backlinks? Which is superior NOW?

Thank you very much for your comment,..wow,. i am really impressed and i have surely gained a lot for your post, even jotted some tips down for future references. from all the comments everyone has made, i am now clear on this controversial issue and surely i go for content then, but to you, it seems backlinks are still the number 1 spot for Google in determining a site value as you stated in your last paragraph.
anyway i feel honored by your reply. thanks again.

Content will always remain the front-runner. If you do not have contents, no one will come to your website. If you do not have contents, there is a limitation on using meta tags and meta descriptions. You, of course, need backlinks, but first you need to build contents on your website. When you have enough contents that have 3-4 focus keywords, only then you can start backlinking.

From a logical point of view I would say concentrating on posting backlinks with a site that has poor content has no sense at all, even if you achieve rank and a good traffic flow to your site, what would that accomplish if you have scrappy content? Traffic would just come to your site, take a brief look and completely forget your site afterwards, if you're selling something or offering services or just blogging articleschances are they won't buy or they won't read it because people are looking for the content they need.

Having a continuous flow of good content posted in your site in a regular basis is the core of having a good effective and profitable site.

Based on the discussions that I have read in this site, content is king and I think it will remain as the top priority of search engines because without contents, there is no website to speak of. It’s like saying that what is the use of backlinks and keywords when your site is stagnant and has no fresh contents for a long time. If you have good contents that is fresh, the search engine can see your site and can give you consideration to be included in the search list. But even with thousands of backlinks but if you have not content to speak of then that is a disaster for SEO.
