Keywords help in increasing ranking of your website. We type these keywords as search term and it shows the ranking of your keyword. So keyword selection is the most important part in SEO. Select long tail keywords with low or medium competition but with high searches.

You have a pretty good explanation of the keyword and I’d say I have learned something new today. I didn’t know the purpose of the keyword although I thought that the keyword acts like a backlink. But now you said that keywords are checked by search engines to know about the contents which mean the keyword that you will use should be directly relevant to the contents of the web page.
