Do you rely solely on Google search for your traffic?

Is Google the best source of traffic for a website? Do you generate web traffic from any other source?

Google is a very unreliable source of traffic. Some months, our traffic fluctuates so wildly. I have pretty much given up on relying on Google for any reliable traffic. We use social media now and paid ads as that converts better anyway.

That's true. Traffic from search engines like Google is very unreliable. One day you might get 1000 visits from Google and the very next day your Google traffic can be zero. That's why you should never depend on Google for traffic. Google traffic is organic traffic and organic traffic converts better. However, you should also be looking for other traffic generation methods.

For years, I was solely dependent on Google for traffic but after Panda, my earnings on article sites went down to almost nothing.

Now, I don't like feeling dependent on Google for my traffic, so I pin photos on Pinterest, tweet updates and post to my friends on Facebook.
Also, forum marketing is good.

And, all this creates good traffic for my sites.

Google can be a very good traffic generator if you know what you are doing. The only time you are likely to get in trouble with Google is if you are breaking their rules by spamming backlinks.

And periodically, Google changes their algorithm so that what was OK before is not OK now. That's what happened with sites such as eHow and Hubpages. Even though I was producing high quality articles, the entire Hubpages site lost ranking with Panda update. They created subdomains for each author to fix the problem and we all had to start from scratch ranking our articles again for traffic.

Even though Google is my primary traffic source, I don't rely on Google for traffic. I do social media marketing in order to drive traffic to my sites. I share my contents on various social media sites such as facebook, twitter, pinterest, linkedin, google + etc. I have also done email marketing, however, email marketing has never helped me to gain traffic. Perhaps, that's because my email list is very small.

No, I have never depended on Google search though it a very good way to garner organic traffic but I have been doing more of promoting and advertising on blogs, forums, and social media. This way I'm sure of traffic daily because people get to this different platforms daily than even search engine.

If you mean by traffic from Google is the SEO or the position of your website on the Google search list then I don’t think it is reliable in terms of getting traffic. You don’t really know how many people are searching that is related to your website and how many searchers actually click on the link of your website in the search list. For traffic, I still rely on social media which I find to be the most potent today. And that would be easy if you have an active account in social media.

Traffic from search engines fluctuates. Someday you might be getting thousands of views from Google and someday there will be zero views. However, Google is always the number one source of traffic. In order to get traffic from Google, your website must be optimized for search engines. Once you do the proper SEO, your website will be ranked high on SERP. Higher ranks mean higher traffic. However, it is very difficult to always stay on the top, therefore, you are very likely to lose Google traffic.
