What are the best scholarly sources for citation in writing?

Which sites or papers would be considered the best for citing when writing articles? Do you have any good sites for medical or health information or for more generic topics covering a wide range, not just Wikipedia.

There's nothing wrong with citing Wiki, so long as the article you are citing or linking to has been well documented and has verifiable information sources. You will not want to take information for research from a wiki page that is considered incomplete as this would not be considered authoritative for the purposes of research.

WebMD is good for health and medical related topics. You will want to include a proper citation when quoting this site. Also, be sure not to plagiarize and give proper credit for all material used.

Citing sources from randomly picked website/webpages is not a good practice. You can never be sure about the authenticity if such articles. You have to look for expert articles. For example, if you are citing the source of health article, you have to look for articles in WebMD, which is a trusted site for medical articles. Citing from user-generated sites and wiki is also not a good practice because you cannot trust the source.
