THE LONG TAIL FOR THE WIN!

Okay, so you want to rank on the Google? That's good, thats real good. You know Google needs to trust you in order for you to have any chance at the number 1 spot. You also know what constituted trust on search engines, and you also know the four components our friends at Google use to determine trust.

Now, lets get to talking about what you need to focus on in 2016...

You need to focus on words. Not just any words, but KEY WORDS.

There are two type that are referred to when talking about SEO. Short Tail and Long Tail. Sort tail key words are usually one to three words in length and are nearly impossible to rank in the search engines, because of the fierce competition for Short Tail key words on Google. Google is already displaying the most relevant content for Short Tail key words. But nothing is impossible. If you feel like taking a shot at Short Tail key words, go right ahead, but you cant say I didn’t warn you.

The best bet for ranking on high is Long Tail key words. Long tail key words are comprised of long sentences designed to mimic what someone would search for organically.

Before you dive into creating your SEO optimized content field with the most amazing Long Tail key words, you need to do one thing: You must brainstorm potential Long Tail key word topics.

Seems easy enough, right? Heck, Google even provides you with a host of fancy tools designed to help you do this (more on this later). Even still, people don’t take the time to brainstorm potential Long Tail ideas.

Let's go through a typical brainstorming process. We'll use a complicated example or rather, an uncommon example. This way, when it comes time for you to do some work, you’ll be able to flash back to this complex topic.
Our topic of choice is Cloud Computing (sexy, I know). Not just any cloud computing, but a company that specializes in migrating other companies to the cloud.

Note: Now this is a B2B space, but pay attention to the process because it applies to B2C companies as well.
Now imagine you're a small business and you hear about all these cool companies moving to the cloud. What is the first thing you’re going to do? That’s right. You’re going to head right to Google. The most logical thing to type is “How do I move my company to the cloud?" If you’re the owner of the cloud migration computing company (the one from our example, try to keep up) this would too good to be true. Sadly, its not that simple, nothing in life ever is.

You see, you have to go through the process your customers go through. This means you have to mimic the conversations they are having in their head. Then, create Long Tail key words that align with those conversations. Often times with your Long Tail key words, you are going to be talking about things related to and often complimentary to your product and service.

So what should our friends at our cloud computing company write about?
Let's go through the exercise.

First, lets decide on a general topic we want to talk about.

· Things to consider: What industry this business is in. What do you sell?

In this case, we are selling cloud migration consulting. Now, just because it's cloud migration consulting, it should only talk about cloud computing. Keep in mind we are trying to add value first, sell second. So what are some ways you can add value while at the same time promote this Cloud Migration service?

Let's think about the stages a business owner goes through before they decided to make the move to the cloud.
What’s the process like for a small to medium size business?

How does someone go from day to day operations to deciding a move to the cloud is the right move for their company? Well, we have to think of events that spark that conversation. These different events become valuable for content and Long Tail key words.

Let's go over some events that potentially would spark the cloud computing conversation.

. Cost – a company may be looking for ways to cut cost.
· Flexibility – a company could be looking for ways to scale, or a least be able to scale on the near future.
· Security- A company could have experienced a breach of security and wants to hedge against this in the near future.
· Competition- a business could be looking to compete with bigger players in their industry.
· Remote- A business owner my want to be able to access is important business documents while traveling .
· Altruism- A Company may want to decrease its carbon footprint.

Okay, so now we that we have a list of things, we have to think about how we are going to add value with content that addresses these issues and connects the products and services in question.

Once you have an idea of what your Long Tail key words are, be sure to add qualifying words that indicate buying intent like “Best” or “Top” as in “ The BEST way to cut cost at my company” or "TOP ways to compete with a bigger competitor."
Qualifying words indicate buying intent.

Lets look at some Keyword tools:

Google Trends – this shows you what people have been searching for.

Google Keyword Finding Too
l – this gives you an idea of what is being searched for in real time. (note this is a tool for adventures but is still useful)

Auto fill in Google search
– this is the search suggestion Google offers to you when you begin a search.SEO quake – A browser extension that show what sites Google trust.

Whelp that's all folks, well not all. Happy Hunting.

I guess there is not much about new SEO strategies except the popularity of link building. It is now an accepted fact that you should not post too many backlinks on 1 site because that is tantamount to spamming with your backlinks. Using paid backlinks is also not recommended anymore. That leaves us with one option which is the manual way of posting backlinks and you can get organic traffic from such strategy.
