The office forum that my husband was supervising did not employ captcha because they think it is a turn off to the members. It is very easy to join their forum because of the no captcha. What they do is to monitor the posts for potential spam. And when they catch a spammer, they block the IP address so the spammer has to use another IP in case he would register again.
