    Do you trust your Files on File Hosting Service?

    I’ve been using Dropbox and Mega for a long time, and I’m happy with their service. Currently I’m using Dropbox as my main hosting service for my personal files, and Mega for other files , such as : softwares , documents,wallpapers etc. Personally I trust on both Dropbox and Mega but I always keep some copies of my files on my HDD , because everything can happen.

    What about you? Do you trust your files on File Hosting Service?

    I suppose I trust them as much as I trust my own backups. Anything can happen like you said. I make backups of loads of information, but I would never save any personal information at such places. No matter if it's my own or my clients information. And I don't talk about social security numbers by saying this. I talk about simple things like emails etc. but that's not because I don't trust these services, it's just my own principles. I have never saved anything personal like this online and I probably won't do that either. At least not in the nearest future.

    I've been mulling this question over in my head for awhile. I think online storage is probably one of the better options for storing all kinds of documents, photos, videos, etc. Probably safer than storing on your hard drive for the long term. Though I think that storage on an external hard drive or USB drive would be an even better otion.

    I've used online file storage sites for many years and most times, they act as a safe haven for all my stuff in the event of catastrophic computer failure.

    I know that Google Drive isn't really on the same level as Dropbox or some of the others, but the fact that it integrates with my work tools is useful. And, I have used it a lot, even now. And, the one thing that comes to mind is using Google Docs about a year and half ago for a big writing project. I had to keep track of hundreds of links for work purposes. And, you know how you can open the doc online at Google Docs or on your own desktop. Well somehow, i opened it up on my computer and it saved as empty. I don't konw how or why it glitched. And, I was thinking there would be some back ups online at Google Docs and somehow it wasn't showing that. Thankfully, I had sent myself a list of some of the links by email (about a month's worth) and then only had to backtrack over my past months work to find everything I'd done. So, things can go wrong in these situations, best to have multiple copies of your documents, whatever they may be.

    Overall, I'm a fan of file/photo hosting online, even that Puush app/storage that I was talking about before. So far, I have about 12,000 screenshots, images and files stored there. It's supposed to be limited storage space, but they never cut me off.

    About a year ago, my Laptop died and took with it all my family's home videos, movies, ad photos with it, pretty much a couple years worth of precious memories gone. And, then later, I got a new Windows 10 computer and logged into the new computer via the same Windows username and everything was still there on the OneDrive storage account.

    As mentioned before, the online world isn't the safest place and if someone ever figures out your login/password to one of these storage sites, they have access to everything stored; family, personal and business. And, that could be a bad thing, especially if you stored sensitive information in an online document or file. Use your best judgment when storing anything online or writing something into an email. You might be perfectly safe now, but think about a year or ten years down the road. And, can you ever truly erase a document off someone else's storage space?

    I have been using Dropbox for many years and I trust them. However, as you said, nothing is 100% safe so there is a risk that something can do wrong so I always leave a copy of the file on my PC and I also leave another copy on my memory stick for very important files. I also sometimes like to back up my files on Google Drive as an extra precaution. It is not that I don’t trust Dropbox but it is better to be safe than sorry. I never had any problems with file hosting services but they do have a right to delete your file so leaving backups is very important.

    I've been warned by a few people that Dropbox has some concerning things in their terms and conditions and that they can actually do whatever they want with the things you upload there? But I have been using them for a few years now and I have had no problem. I use Dropbox and Google Drive.

    I understand that maybe there is some risk, but on the other hand I lost everything I had when my pc and my laptop crashed at literally the same time in February 2012. At the time my main work was freelance bookkeeping and I had Quickbooks installed on both machines. I had no recent backups... so it was year end and I lost everything I had for 6 companies.

    Since then I have nothing saved on my machines. Everything is online. I use Pastel Online too.
